How Are Your New Year’s Resolutions Holding Up? Let’s Be Real – It’s Time to Start Now

April 9, 2025

New Year’s resolutions are always full of promise. We tell ourselves, This year is going to be different. We’re going to wake up earlier, hit the gym, eat cleaner, and finally crush those fitness goals. But let’s be real—how’s that going for you so far?

Odds are, most of us have already fallen off track or started to slip. And here’s the hard truth: resolutions are usually fixed and absolute. We set a clear goal, but when it doesn’t go perfectly, we fall off and write it off as a failure. The reality is, fitness isn’t a perfect, one-time thing. It’s about constant adaptation, growth, and overcoming obstacles. You’re going to have setbacks—that’s inevitable. And if you’re waiting for the perfect moment, like the beginning of the year or when everything aligns, you’re setting yourself up to fail when life gets messy. And that’s not an “if,” it’s a “when.” Life is unpredictable, and things will get chaotic.

Here’s the tough love: If you can’t stick to things when the timing feels just right, like the start of a new year, you won’t stick with it when life throws you curveballs. Motivation and resolutions alone won’t carry you through those messy moments. It’s consistency, adaptability, and the ability to push through even when everything feels off-track that will get you to your goal.

Ask yourself:

  • How are you REALLY doing with your fitness goals right now?
  • What lessons have you learned from the past couple of months?
  • Are you waiting for the “right” time to make healthier choices, or are you making them now?

Progress is more important than perfection. You don’t need a fresh start every time life gets in the way. What matters is showing up, adjusting when things aren’t going as planned, and committing to making progress in small, consistent steps.

If your New Year’s resolutions have already taken a backseat, don’t let that discourage you. You don’t need the new year or the “perfect time” to start. Every day is an opportunity to get back on track and move forward. Fitness isn’t about waiting for everything to align perfectly—it’s about sticking with it when things are less than ideal, and adapting as you go.
